BANBURY United recovered from the shock of conceding an early goal to draw 1-1 in their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division match at home to Biggleswade Town
The Puritans went behind in the fifth minute when a cross from the right from Inih Effiong sailed over Jack Harding in the Banbury goal into the far top corner of the net.
United responded and went close when George Jeacock’s shot was turned round the near post by Biggleswade keeper Ian Brown, who then saved Conor McDonagh’s effort with his legs.
Banbury, who gave a debut to Eddie Odhiambo, signed from Kidlington should have equalised on half-time from a penalty, which was awarded against visiting defender Russell Short for handball.
But Brown dived to his left to save Ricky Johnson’s spot-kick.
It looked as though it was not going to be Banbury’s day when Andy Gunn’s header smashed against the bar early in the second half.
But in the 55th minute, they were awarded another penalty when Jeacock was brought down by Callum Lewis.
This time Johnson made no mistake firing the ball low into the corner.
Mike Ford’s side will be hoping to go one better tonight when they visit Cambridge City.
