OXFORD City suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 2-0 at Hungerford Town last night.

The hosts dictated much of the Vanarama National League South clash and won with a goal either side of half-time.

Fielding the same starting line-up as in their 2-1 win over Welling in Saturday’s opener, City were unable to fire.

They started well, setting up an early chance for Scott Davies, who fired straight at the keeper.

But the hosts held the upper hand and only a fine save from City keeper Jack Stevens prevented them going ahead on the half-hour.

Hungerford did take the lead in the 43rd minute, when Mike Jones bundled home from a corner, the ball hitting Stevens’s knee before entering the net.

The hosts wrapped up the game in the 65th minute, when the unchallenged Stefan Brown drove past Stevens.

City, for whom new signing Bonifacio Neto came on as sub, never looked like getting back in the game
