LIAM Enver-Marum enjoyed the perfect debut for Oxford City, scoring twice from the penalty spot to give them a home win over Welling United.

Danny Waldren had equalised for the away side before the break, but they had no answer to Enver-Marum’s second spot-kick ten minutes into the second half of their Vanarama National League South match.

City handed debuts to no fewer than nine players following a summer reshuffle, including keeper Jack Stevens and defender Robbie Cundy, both signed on loan from neighbours Oxford United on Friday.

Centre back Harold Joseph was an unused substitute, having signed late last week.

Before the game, there was a minute’s silence as tribute to Oxford City managing director Colin Taylor, who died last month.

Scott Davies took the captain’s armband and soon made his influence felt, setting Louie Soares away on the right with a glorious floated pass.

The winger then played it inside for Godfrey Poku, who rounded the goalkeeper before being tripped in the area.

Enver-Marum made no mistake from the penalty spot, calmly rolling the ball straight up the middle to put City in front after 11 minutes.

But the visitors struck back, levelling in the 23rd minute when a long ball forward was headed back as far as Waldren, who leathered in from the edge of the area.

The second half was only ten minutes old when City were gifted a second penalty following an innocuous coming together between Soares and Oliver Sprague.

Enver-Marum again despatched the spot-kick, planting it into the bottom left-hand corner.

City had chances to increase their advantage, but failed to convert.

Tom Winters should have done better when presented with a free header six yards out, which he guided well wide.

But he did set up Davies five minutes from time with a cheeky backheel, with the City captain curling a gorgeous effort from the edge of the area which just skimmed the post.

Having shown little attacking intent for much of the match, Welling finally began to threaten in the closing stages.

But an excellent close-range save from Stevens kept them at bay to get City off to the perfect start.

They will look to build on that tonight as they travel to Hungerford Town and could give a debut to Italian midfielder Bonifacio Neto, who signed on Saturday.

Meanwhile, defender James Fawke has departed the club without making a competitive appearance.
