BRAGGING rights are on the line once again as Wantage Town make the short trip to local rivals Didcot Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West tomorrow.

The two sides have already met in three different competitions this season – each claiming one victory, before a goalless draw in the league last month.

For Wantage boss Stuart Cattell, it is a match he is particularly keen to win.

“I’ve played in a lot of local derbies and whenever I have, I’ve been desperate not to lose,” he said.

“We know they’re a good side. To be honest, they’re probably where we want to be as a club, but it would be great to get one over them.”

A broken rib keeps Cattell sidelined along with midfielder Matt Clark (ankle), but defender Carl Evans and midfielder Nick Kalakoutis return to the squad.

Didcot’s injury worries are eased by the returns of winger Jack Powell and striker George Reid, while Harry Beer and Ryan Barney face fitness tests.

Defender Jack Longford returns from suspension and midfielder Graham Edney is available again, while youth team midfielder James Tanner is also likely to keep his place in the squad.

Didcot player-manager Andy Ballard expects a fiercely contested derby, due to several players moving between the two clubs this season.

Striker Mark Janes moved from Wantage to the Railwaymen during the summer, while Mark Francis went the opposite way last month.

“You always expect players will want to play well against their old club,” said Ballard.

“There’s nothing better than a good derby to bring out the best in a team.”

Full-back Callum White has recovered from a knee injury in time for Banbury United’s home clash with Tiverton Town.

But the Puritans are without the suspended Andy Gunn and unavailable Duran Martin, who featured in Antigua & Barbuda’s 2-1 CFU Caribbean Cup win over Aruba on Wednesday.

North Leigh travel to Bishops Cleeve bolstered by the return of goalkeeper James Foster and defender Matt Woodley.

But an ankle ligament injury rules out Steve Davies, who netted for the Millers alongside a George Seacole brace in a 3-2 friendly victory over Oxford University on Monday evening.
