Oxford City boosted their Vanarama National League South play-off aspirations as they twice came from behind to beat Wealdstone 3-2.

City closed to within three points of the top five after recording back-to-back wins for the first time in 2016.

They had to do it the hard way though, falling behind to Jonathan Wright’s header and then again to Bradley Hudson-Odoi’s effort after Kynan Isaac had levelled.

Bradley Bubb equalised for a second time before Conor McDonagh netted what turned out to be the winner on the hour mark.

A five-goal thriller looked a long way off after a dour start.

The visitors opened the scoring after 25 minutes when former Oxford United striker Jefferson Louis headed across goal for Wright to nod home.

McDonagh twice went close as City pressed for an equaliser.

But it was Isaac who forced a corner with a driving left-flank run and a low shot which forced a save from goalkeeper James Bransgrove.

The resulting corner was cleared only as far as the lurking Isaac, whose powerful 20-yard strike caught the wind, and swirled past the outstretched grasp of the keeper and dipped under the bar.

The second half was just a minute old when Wealdstone re-established their lead, Hudson-Odoi rounding the keeper before slotting into an empty net.

City struck back just three minutes later when a free-kick fell to Bubb, who flicked the ball over the keeper and into the top corner.

Ten minutes later, McDonagh put the hosts ahead with a fabulous solo effort. He collected the ball near halfway and raced through the middle before slotting the ball past the helpless keeper.

Wealdstone could have fallen further behind when substitute Kaylem Patterson beat Bransgrove to an underhit backpass, but he shot wide.

Although they were unable to kill the game off, City held on comfortably to move up to sixth.
