Four goals in the final 30 minutes gave Oxford City their first Vanarama National League South victory for two months as they came from behind to beat St Albans City, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Charlie MacDonald fired the visitors into an early lead.

But second-half goals from Bradley Bubb, Darren Pond, Conor McDonagh and Marlon Jackson gave the hosts the points.

Within ten minutes, City were behind when keeper Laurie Walker failed to hold on to a bobbling ball, allowing MacDonald to bundle in.

MacDonald could have put the visitors further in front when Louie Theophanous beat his man, only for City’s defence to scramble the ball away.

The hosts were well off the pace for the first hour, but once Bubb netted a scrappy equaliser, poking home after a scramble in the St Albans area, the game was turned on its head.

MacDonald squandered the chance to restore the away side’s lead, but moments later, City edged in front.

Kynan Isaac’s fierce drive was kept out by keeper Joe Welch, but he couldn’t prevent it from falling to the waiting Pond, who tapped in.

That sparked a St Albans collapse as they conceded a third just a minute later when Bubb squared for the unmarked McDonagh to finish.

Jackson made it 4-1 in the 74th minute, slipping his marker in the area before collecting the ball and directing a side-foot shot into the net.

It could have been worse for the visitors, but Welch prevented any further damage, blocking Jackson’s cheeky backheel.

Theophanous had a chance to reduce the deficit, but his effort struck Walker’s feet.

City’s first win in the league since November 14, lifts them back into the play-off spots.
