Work has begun on a new permanent stand at Oxford City’s Marsh Lane ground.

A new 150-seater stand is being installed to bring the seated capacity past the 500 mark required for clubs to compete in the Vanarama National League South play-offs at the end of the season.

And it could be ready to house its first spectators when City host St Albans City in the league on Saturday afternoon.

“We started work on Monday morning, bright and early in the frost and it’s looking great,” said managing director Colin Taylor.

“We hope to have it more or less completed by Friday, with just a few more seats to put in on Monday morning.

“It enables us to play in the play-offs, should we reach that position, and it’s also a requirement to play in the league above, so it needed to be done.”

The club have moved swiftly after being granted planning permission earlier this month and have plans for further developments at the ground.

City had hoped to install a 3G artificial turf pitch last summer ahead of the start of the current campaign and now hope to resurrect that plan ahead of the start of next season.

“We’ll be putting in the planning application for that in the next two weeks probably,” Taylor added.

“The plan is unchanged and we want to try and get the 3G out there between the end of this season and the start of the next one, so we’re just dusting off those plans again now.”
