Ian Concannon warned his Didcot Town players not to get distracted ahead of their FA Trophy first qualifying round trip to Molesey tomorrow.

After the joy of reaching the first round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time last weekend, setting up a televised clash with Sky Bet League Two side Exeter City, the Railwaymen were brought crashing back to earth with a 2-1 league defeat at Banbury United on Tuesday.

The under-par display left Concannon unhappy, who felt some already had one eye on next Sunday’s big match.

“No doubt it will be in the back of some players’ minds,” he said.

“But we won’t have anybody holding back for that game, thinking they’re guaranteed a place in the team.

“If players are thinking about what’s happening down the line they need to think again, because if they don’t perform they won’t be involved.”

With top-scorer Mark Janes out with a thigh injury and doubts over Mark Francis (knee) and Jamie Heapy (thigh), Didcot might be expected to rest players for the trip to the Ryman League Division 1 South high-flyers.

But Concannon feels the FA Trophy is still a priority.

He said: “We had a good run in the competition last year, going all the way to the first round, and we’d like to do well in it again.

“It’s a chance for us to keep the profile of the club up, which can only be a good thing.

“For us, there’s no bigger game than this one and we’ll be treating it as just as important as last week.”

Meanwhile, former Oxford United midfielder and ex-Eastleigh manager Richard Hill is aiding Didcot with their preparations for next week’s big cup tie, by arranging a scouting mission to Exeter’s league match at Barnet tomorrow.

“They don’t have a game midweek, so this is our only chance to have them watched before the match,” said Concannon. “We’re very grateful to Richard for sorting it out for us.”
