Luke Coulson will feature for Oxford City at home to Bishop’s Stortford in Vanarama National League South tomorrow, despite spending the last week on trial at Crewe Alexandra.

The 21-year-old was offered the opportunity to impress the Sky Bet League One club, but with no formal approach forthcoming he has returned to City and is available for selection.

General manager Justin Merritt said: “They touched base with us and asked if he could train with them.

“Luke was keen to have a look and we felt that as a club it would be wrong to block that.

“It would have been different if we’d had a game last weekend of course, but it was an opportunity for him to experience that environment, because he still has aspirations of being a professional footballer.”

Also due to return to the fold are Paul Stonehouse and Declan Benjamin, following loan spells with Slough Town, while striker Vinny Mukendi has left by mutual consent, with a club in Malta his most likely destination.

Lee Henderson is City’s only absentee with a broken ankle.

With last week’s scheduled trip to Sutton United postponed due to the home side’s involvement in the FA Cup, City’s last outing came a fortnight ago when they were held 1-1 at home to Margate – their fifth draw in seven home games.

Merritt believes City must be more ruthless if they are to avoid another disappointment this weekend.

“If we score the first goal we need to be more positive and look to get a second, not just sit back on it,” he said.

“That’s the mindset of successful teams and we’ve got such good attacking players that we want to get them on the ball as much as we can.”
