Oxford City boss Justin Merritt admitted his side are now reliant on other results to keep their Vanarama Conference North  play-off bid alive after missing their biggest chance to close the gap on the play-off positions, writes Matthew Bruce.

City’s 0-0 stalemate at home to Boston United failed to reduce the five-point cushion their fifth-placed opponents had over them.

It means City will now have to hope that Boston and other sides above them drop points in the remaining four matches.

Merritt said the focus of his side will be on winning their own games.

“We can’t control what goes on elsewhere,” he said.

“But what we can do is get our own side playing well and properly prepared for each game.”

And Merritt feels his side will be favourites ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Stockport County.

He said: “There’ll be a few thousand there and our players like to play on that stage.

“We’re very confident and I think we’ll go there and look not to cause an upset, because I would have us as favourites, but I think we’re definitely going there to win the game.”
