BANBURY United have boosted their ranks ahead of tomorrow’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division trip to Cambridge City with two new signings.

The Puritans have snapped up 23-year-old former Togo under 20 Thomas Amegnaglo and Frenchman Martin Esmel from Oxford City Nomads.

Manager Paul Davis said the duo had impressed during a trial match against Winslow United earlier this week.

“There were a couple of players that just really stood out,” he said.

“When players come in and do well you can’t just turn them away.

“We’re very happy with the players we’ve got, but this adds a bit of competition, a bit of strength in depth and hopefully should just freshen things up a bit.”

Away from the pitch, former Oxford United defender Rufus Brevett has taken up a coaching role, while former Everton, Charlton and Gillingham man Steve Clarke has been appointed director of football.

But Davis insisted that his duties as manager won’t be affected by Clarke’s new role.

“Next year we plan to add an under 21 side and Steve’s main responsibility will be with that,” he said.

“He won’t have any big involvement with the first team, that’s still my job”

Joel Meade returns after missing last week’s 2-1 defeat at St Neots Town, but Jack Westbrook is still suspended.
