Oxford City general manager Justin Merritt said he was “delighted” with his side being drawn at home to Vanarama Conference high-fliers Woking in the second round, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

City breezed through the previous two rounds with comfortable wins over lower league sides Lewes and Wimborne Town.

But Merritt said City are looking forward to testing themselves against one of the strongest teams in the competition on Saturday, January 10.

“I’m delighted,” he said. “If I could have handpicked it myself I would have chosen a home draw against one of the top six sides from the Conference, so it’s just what we wanted.

“Everyone is very excited about it, the players have all been texting each other and they’re really looking forward to it.”

Didcot Town face a trip to either Ebbsfleet United or Welling United if they can beat Forest Green Rovers in tonight’s replay at the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium.

Joint manager Ian Concannon said: “We’re just thankful we’re in the draw because there were times at the weekend where it didn’t look as if we would be.”

Late goals from substitute Lance Williams and star striker John Mills earned the Railwaymen a 2-2 draw at the Conference side on Saturday.

And Concannon is optimistic they can finish the job tonight.

“We’ve got every confidence in the players, but people will obviously expect us to get beaten,” he said.

“The pressure’s all on them. Everyone expects them to win it and they’ll be slaughtered if they don’t.

“But we deserve another crack at it after such a good performance on Saturday.

“We’re going to give them a game and make it difficult for them and we’re quietly confident we can do it.”

Striker Ryan Brooks returns to the squad after being unavailable on Saturday.
