IKECHI Anya returned to Oxford City yesterday to inspire a group of aspiring footballers, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The Watford winger and Scotland international, who made 12 Southern League appearances for City in 2007 after being released by Wycombe Wanderers, was at Marsh Lane to give a talk to young players from the club’s academy.

Anya, 26, believes there is the talent at Oxford City for others to follow in his footsteps.

He said: “All of them have talent, they just maybe need to apply themselves a bit better and hopefully the talk might have spurred them on.

“If I managed to do it, they’re probably more talented than me, so if they give it the right application and the right mental attitude then they can achieve much more than even I have done.

“It’s a great opportunity that Oxford City have given them, so they’re only going to improve.

“I’m not sure they realise how lucky they are to have this in Oxford and I hope they make the most out of it.”
