Two goals from Jimmy Deabill helped Abingdon United secure their first Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division home win of the season with a convincing 4-1 success against title-chasing Ascot United.

The signing of Ben Brown from Oxford City Nomads helped tighten the defence and helped them resist a strong start by the visitors Abingdon took the lead in the 39th minute when good play from Ani Odhiambo and Jon Steedman set up Kieran Cochrane, who scored with a low drive.

Deabill headed Abingdon into 2-0 lead just after the break and appeared to have made the game safe with his second goal in the 79th minute.

But a minute later, Abingdon keeper Lee Farrow misjudged Dave Hancock’s pass into the six-yard box and it went over the line.

Headington Amateurs crashed to their fourth home defeat of the season in Division 1 East when crashing 4-1 to Henley Town.

The visitors scored through Asa Povey, Richard Thomas, and a brace from Sean Moore that included a penalty. Substitute Luke Cuff was on target for Headington.
