Following recent upheavals which saw the exodus of several leading players, Wantage were proud of the way they held high-flying Larkhall to a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West clash.

The home fans expected to see an easy win againast their lowly vistors.

But some inspired goalkeeping from Gareth Tucker, including one spectacular save just before the break, enabled the visitors to go in level at the break.

The hosts came out with a much higher tempo at the start of the second half, and scored within minutes, Luke Bryan knocking home Brad Norris’s cross.

Wantage then dug in and started to gain control of the game.

James Glover, at playing right back, went on an attacking run, skipping past a number of players to set up Nick Thorne, who equalised with his debut goal for the visitors.

Wantage went on the offensive, pushing hard to try and get the winning goal, without success.

But boss Daniel Berry’s side were happy to have secured a valuable point.
