Oxford City’s general manager Justin Merritt said key moments went against his side and denied them a deserved victory against Stalybridge Celtic in Vanarama Conference North, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.
City led through Javier Rodriguez, only for keeper Mark Scott, on his return from injury, to concede a penalty.
And Merritt admitted it had cost them.
“The key moments were that we missed a couple of great chances in the first half and the penalty,” he said.
“Scotty’s done well to get out there, but then he needed to stay on his feet and not commit himself.
“Those moments have a big impact in games.”

Despite the result, Merritt felt his side’s performance was a considerable improvement over recent displays which had seen City slump to four consecutive defeats.
He added: “Sometimes you can’t control the points you get, but you can control your performance level.
“It was a little bit more solid today and the boys worked really hard in difficult conditions.
“We’ll have better days on the ball, but the important thing is to start accumulating points.”
