Wantage Town twice took the lead, but conceded two late goals to lose 3-2 to Scholing in their Southern League Division 1 South & West clash at Alfredian Park on Saturday.

With new signing Bidemi Afolabi up front, Wantage started brightly.

Jon Steedman fired just over before Brad Shaw put the home side ahead in the 22nd minute with a low shot past keeper Matt Brown.

The lead did not last long, however, with Sam Wilson equalising ten minutes later following a neat move.

Wantage hit back immediately to regain the lead. Shaw’s superb inswinging cross was deftly headed home by Jimmy Deabill for his eighth goal of the season.

Sholing again responded well with Wantage keeper Lee Lee Farrow forced to make a good save.

The first half finished with a superb free kick from home skipper Tom Melledew, which was brilliantly tipped around a post by Brown.

Wantage struggled to impose themselves in the second half, apart from the excellent Shaw, who had one shot saved by Brown.

New signing Adam Lovegrove came on with 25 minutes left and was denied by Brown after being set up by Shaw.

This proved to be the turning point Shortly afterwards, a deep free kick caused panic in the Wantage goalmouth and Stuart Mott tapped home to equalise.

There was no response from Wantage, who let in another goal two minutes later.

Jake Johns went down injured from a Sholing attack.

The visitors took full advantage of the full back lying down in the box, by storming through the channel and firing home the winner via Barry Mason.

Wantage had no answer and succumbed to another defeat after a poor second half.
