Banbury United gain their first Southern League Premier Division points of the season with first-half goals from Josh Shama and Shepherd Murom-bedzi earning them victory a 2-1 victory over Dorchester.

It was an encouraging result for Paul Davis in his first match since being appointed full-time manager in succession to Ed Stein.

Davis made three changes from the side that had performed admirably at Frome the previous week.

Luke Cray returned from holiday at right back in place of Leo Agathangelou, new signing Joel Meade came in a centre-half in place of Lewis Strafford and Murombedzi replaced Darius Browne.

Shama posed a constant threat to the Dorchester defence and was denied twice by keeper Alan Walker-Harris before putting the Puritans ahead after 28 minutes.

Dorchester defender Oakley Hanger had the ball nicked off him by Shama, who went on to fire past Walker-Harris from 12 yards for his second goal in two games.

He then set up a chance for Jacob Walcott, before the hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time.

Shama fed Murombedzi wide on the left. He cut inside to the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a glorious shot which flew into the far top corner of the net giving Walker-Harris no chance.

Dorchester got right back into the game three minutes into the second half when a long throw from by Dan Cann into the six-yard box saw Nathan Walker get the faintest of touches to carry it into the back of the net.

They should have equalised on 63 minutes, but Cann hit the side-netting.

The final 20 minutes saw Banbury come under some pressure, but they defended stoutly and held on for three points.

Despite the result, Banbury stay bottom of the table.
