BANBURY United completed the worst defensive season in their 80-year history by conceding five goals for the third Premier Division game in a row.

This season’s tally of 116 conceded in 44 games at an average of 2.64 per game exceedes the previous worst in 1964-65 of 99 in 38 games at an average of 2.61.

Lee Chaffey put Cambridge ahead on seven minutes and Josh Dawkin ran through for No 2.

Next, Robbie Burns turned in a low cross just before half-time.

Banbury went 4-0 down on the hour mark, with Josh Beech converting a penalty after goalkeeper Scott Dutton fouled Danny Kelly.

The hosts pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when Adeyinka Talabi let rip from 25 yards, but James Brighton’s free-kick sealed it.
