Bedford Tn 2, Banbury Utd 0

Banbury United are looking anxiously over their shoulders after suffering their 11th loss in 12 Calor League Premier Division games on Saturday.

This defeat against already-relegated Bedford and a victory for struggling AFC Totton, means the Puritans are only eight points clear of the drop zone.

Further bad news for Banbury is that former skipper Wayne Blossom has been released after the club were forced to make financial cutbacks.

This game saw the return to the side of midfielder Anderson Pinto after his planned stint in US football fell through, while there was first start for young midfielder Carl Tappin.

Banbury defended well under pressure in a goalless first half, but showed little going forward.

Bedford took the lead five minutes after the break when Tom Rawlings lofted the ball over keeper Scott Dutton from ten yards.

Banbury initially tried to respond, but they went further behind in nthe 71st minute. Kelvin Osei-Addo was given time on the edge of the penalty area to turn and then shoot powerfully into the bottom corner of the net.

Banbury United: Dutton, Cray, Fathers, Isaac ( Strafford 75), Collins, Fishwick, Dias, Obeng, Skendi, Pinto (Bevis 80), Tappin (Green 67).

Attendance: 216.
