Andy Sinnott says he can’t wait to get started after he was appointed as assistant manager-coach at Didcot Town.

Sinnott, 62, who left his position as coach at Skrill North side Oxford City, said he enjoyed his time at Marsh Lane, but felt the chance of helping Calor League Division 1 South & West Didcot to progress was too good to turn down.

“I was approached by Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy (Didcot’s joint bosses) and when I went to meet them what really impressed me was their enthusiasm,” said Sinnott.

“They were with me as players and they are so keen to do well, and I want to be part of that.

“It wasn’t that difficult a decision.

“I had been at City a while and Mike (Ford) has a lot of coaches around him. I felt my role was diminishing.

“I have no axe to grind with City. It was the opportunity (at Didcot) to be a bit more involved.

“I believe I still have a lot to offer the game.

“I have been around a long time.

“Jamie and Ian are in their first managerial roles and I am the old head. It’s an exciting prospect.”

He added: “I played for City most of my career and it’s a wrench to leave.

“I enjoyed doing some scouting, but I was missing the buzz that you get on matchdays.

“I need to be in a dressing room environment.”

Concannon said: “We are chuffed to bits he has joined us.

“With Jamie back playing again, we needed some help.

“Andy has years of experience in non-league football and has some excellent contacts.

“He’s very enthusiastic and it’s massive for us.

“We met him last Thursday and had a long chat. He was keen to see what we wanted to do.

“We are delighted to get him and what he can bring to the club.”

City manager Mike Ford added: “Didcot have now got in Andy a very experienced and honest man.

“I think he was missing the involvement on match days and thought he could make a difference to them.”

Meanwhile, Ford is not optimistic their home game with third-placed AFC Telford will go ahead as they look to climb nearer to safety.

He said: “I think the chances of it going ahead are very slim. Yesterday there were still big puddles on the pitch.”

Should the pitch pass an inspection today, City will be without keeper Victor Francoz (calf injury) and striker Steve Basham (leg).
