Oxford City boss Mike Ford admitted he was surprised by the ease with which his side saw off struggling Worcester City as they strolled to a comfortable 2-0 victory yesterday.

City dominated the opening 30 minutes and took an early two-goal lead.

Ford believed going for the opposition right from the first whistle had paid dividends for the visitors.

“We as a group are better doing that than we are dropping off and trying to take the sting out of the game,” he said.

“I think my priority was to come here and not lose the game and I think we adopted that mentality.

“But then we get two goals and our mentality is to hang onto it.

“We never really came under any pressure at any point in the game.

“Mark Scott in goal wasn’t called on at all today and that tells me the lads in front of him did their jobs well and we were very comfortable winners.”

The match had been billed beforehand as a relegation battle, but Ford feels that his side are not playing like a team struggling at the wrong end of the table.

“I’ve got players that know how to play in a certain way and they’ve been really good,” he added.

“All the things you have to do every week we’ve done exceptionally well in the last few weeks.”
