FOOTBALL: Dunmall treble in vain for Kidlington
10:10am Monday 14th January 2013 in Non League
Jack Dunmall’s hat-trick could not prevent Kidlington going down to a 4-3 defeat in an entertaining Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division on a quagmire of a pitch at Highworth Town on Saturday.
Kidlington’s cause was not helped by Ryan Curtin getting sent off in the second half. Terry Bohane put Highworth ahead after 22 minutes, but Dunmall equalised on the stroke of half-time with a spectacular half-volley into the roof of the net.
Bohane took advantage of some shoddy defending to restore Hightworth’s lead in the first minute of the second half.
But another half-volley from Dunmall made it 2-2 five minutes later.
The hosts went ahead for the third time when Aaron Maximan took advantage of a mix-up between Kidlington keeper Matt Dixon and defender Liam Rice.
Then Tom Fila made it 4-2 for Highworth.
Curtin was sent off for kicking out an opponent, but Kidlington kept battling away.
They were rewarded in injury time with a penalty, which – in the absence of Curtin – Dunmall converted to complete his hat-trick.
On a day when several games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches, Oxford City Nomads recorded a notable 1-0 victory away to second-placed Slimbridge.
The winning goal came from Cory Forbes Shrivenham’s season of woe continued with a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Holyport. Jamie Wright (2), Jamie West, Dan Rapley and Sam Jones scored for Holyport, with Chris Rivers replying.
