FOOTBALL: Abingdon United beaten again
9:50am Monday 24th September 2012 in Headlines
Abingdon United slipped to their third Evo-Stik Spouthern League Division 1 South & West defeat in a row, as Mangotsfield won 2-1 to record their first victory of the season.
A lack of concentration saw the hosts concede an early goal to Josh Klein-Davies.
Abingdon failed to cut out a long pass, and Klein-Davies charged into the area from the right and drove an angled shot wide of keeper Rob Durrant.
Five minutes later, Abingdon nearly equalised when Carl Self twisted and turned in the area before passing to Yashwa Romeo who cracked in a low shot, which Mangotsfield keeper Danny Greaves saved well.
Midway through the first period, Abingdon were caught out once more by a ball over the top, but Chris Baker got back to save the day.
Greaves saved well from Sam Tucker, before Abingdon equalised. From a free-kick, Luke Carnell stole in behind the defence to head home.
Early in the second half, Abingdon forced three corners in a row.
From the last of these, Mangotsfield sped upfield and the waiting Kyle Thomas curled the ball inside the post for what proved to be the winner.
Another goal looked likely, but Todd Winter fired over for Mangotsfield and Abingdon’s Damian Crudup did likewise in injury time.
Abingdon Utd : Durrant, Baker, Crudup, Carnell, Halliday, Biddle (Riccio 72), Romeo (Nowell 60), Self, Evans, Tucker, Young (Christodolou 82). Subs not used: Butler, Bourne.
Attendance: 80.
