FOOTBALL: King eyes switch to Farnborough


Didcot Town midfielder Jack King, could be on his way to Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division rivals Farnborough.

King, the ex-Swansea City apprentice, who scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, and helped Stuart Peace’s side clinch promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs, has been training with the Hampshire outfit and played in their pre-season victory over Brentford on Wednesday.

He capped his outstanding season by winning the manager’s player-of-the-year award.

One player who won’t be appearing is Philip John, who scored the winner in the play-offs to seal promotion has left the club after a six-month stay.

The winger, who signed from Ryman Division 1 South Fleet Town in February, rejected a deal with the south Oxfordshire club.

Meanwhile, Didcot, who travel to Milton United tomorrow for their first pre-season friendly, have signed a two-year extension on their sponsorship with npower, the owners of Didcot power stations.

North Leigh have bolstered their squad by signing former Oxford United youth team player Aaron Posey.

The youngster, who was released by United in 2008, has also played for Abingdon United in the Southern League and Hellenic League side Old Woodstock Town.

Manager Mark Gee needs cover for midfielder Joe Burnell, who is due to go into hospital tomorrow for a exploratory knee operation.

Gee’s outfit begin the build-up to their Division 1 South & West campaign at Rothwell Town tomorrow.

Witney United have re-signed ex-Wycombe central defender Stuart Cattell from Kidlington.

Cattell, who had spells with Oxford City and Aylesbury United.

They have also recruited midfielder Tommy Lewis from Welwyn Garden City.

Boss Andy Lyne said: “He will add pace and quality to our midfield.”

Milton United want to strengthen their squad for their FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division 1 East campaign.
