DIDCOT Town have been moved to the East Division of the Evo-Stik South League, saving 600 miles worth of travelling.

The Railwaymen, who were originally kept in the West section, swap places with Evesham United.

It ends a farcical situation which saw Didcot first appeal to the Football Association 12 days ago.

Andy Ballard’s side were initially kept in the West Division and Cinderford Town – located just 14 miles from Wales – were placed in the East.

The withdrawal of Andover Town saw Cinderford moved back into the West, but Didcot remained there.

However, the Railwaymen joined forces with Evesham, who appealed after being placed in the East section, at the end of last week.

Didcot manager Ballard had been hopeful of a quick solution in order to start planning for the new season.

Common sense now seems to have prevailed with the side joining fellow Oxfordshire sides North Leigh, Kidlington and Thame United in the East Division.

Ballard said: "I'm glad the league and the FA have seen sense and switched us to the East Division.

"I'm surprised they made the decision in the first place because looking at a map it just doesn't make any sense to have either Cinderford or Evesham in the East Division when we are further east.

"It's great news for the club and the players as the mileage will be less."
