THE next generation of England tars took to the pitches in Cutteslowe Park, North Oxford, as Summertown Stars hosted the City’s primary school girls football tournament for the eighth time.

More than 150 girls competed to get their hands on age-group trophies.

St Barnabas School, Jericho, collected the under 11 trophy, while Wolvercote triumphed in the under nine competiton.

Both winning teams received their trophies from Oxford’s recent Lord Mayor, Jean Fooks.

Organiser Matt Richardson said: “The tournament is growing every year.

“The standard has improved and it is great to see so many girls coming to play.

“The opportunity to represent your school as a team was really exciting so I know the girls really loved it.

“It is a great way for them to find out that we have great grassroots football.”
