LES Robinson is preparing himself for an emotional final appearance for Oxford United – 18 years and one day after his previous game for the club.

Liverpool Legends will be the opponents at the Kassam Stadium on Monday (2pm) for the popular ex-right back’s testimonial.

Robinson is sixth on United’s all-time appearances list, playing 458 games between 1990 and 2000.

The 51-year-old was stunned to discover he would be getting a testimonial almost two decades after leaving and is relishing the prospect of meeting up with his former teammates again.

He said: “This is something I never expected, it was an absolute shock, but a buzz at the same time.

“It will be an emotional day and I’m not good at that type of thing, so I can’t wait for kick-off.

“I’m really grateful to the club for this huge honour and everyone who has made it happen.”

Liverpool are one of only two English professional teams, along with Manchester United, Robinson did not face during his decade with the U’s.

Phil Neal, Mark Wright and Alan Kennedy are among the star names in the visitors’ line-up, while the hosts side is packed with Robinson’s former teammates.

Tickets, for the South Stand Lower only, are on sale from oufctickets.co.uk at £10 for adults, £5 for U18s and £1 for U7s and can be bought on the day.
