OXFORD City boss Mark Jones knows his side must ensure last week’s impressive win was not a flash in the pan.

A superb display at home to high-flying Hemel Hempstead Town saw City run out 4-1 victors and boost their hopes of avoiding relegation.

They sit just four points and three places outside the Vanarama National League South drop zone, but face another tough test with a long trip to play-off chasing Truro City tomorrow.

Jones’s side have taken the decision to travel down to Cornwall tonight to prepare for another crucial game.

And the manager wants more of the same.

“I thought we looked a lot more threatening and were a lot braver last weekend,” he said.

“It all paid off and we got a good result, but we really need to show more consistency now.

“We are travelling down the night before to make sure we can prepare as professionally as we can, and I am in no doubt it will be a really tough game down there.

“We are certainly not getting carried away with our win last week, because we have a very tough run of games, and we really need to fight hard.”

Young defender Connor Stevens is likely to miss the game with a bruised foot, while Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain is also doubtful with a thigh strain.

Jones is set to bring in young defender Udoka Godwin-Malife from the Nomads, and says he has no qualms about including the talented 17-year-old.

“Udoka has been on our academy programme, and every week we can see him progressing.

“He’s going to become a really good player. He’s quick, powerful and talented with a good attitude.”

Meanwhile, Jones praised his two new loan signings Frankie Musonda and Sam Nombe, both of whom made a big impact in last weekend’s 4-1 win against Hemel.

“The two new boys did really well for us,” Jones said. “We felt we needed to freshen things up a bit.

“Frankie was very solid in defence, and obviously Sam looked really lively and got a good goal on his debut, which is always a positive for a striker.”

Looking ahead to the Truro match, Jones added: “We have to look at what we did well last week and try to replicate that.

“We have tended to play our best football against the better sides – maybe we get ourselves up more when playing those teams.”
