JACK Payne’s loan has a clause in it which allows him to be recalled from Oxford United in January.

The 22-year-old made an instant impact on his competitive debut for Oxford United last weekend, setting up both goals in the 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic.

But there is the possibility of the season-long deal being cut short midway through the season, although United will be given plenty of warning if it is on the cards.

U’s boss Pep Clotet said: “They want to see where they are in January themselves and he’s their player.

“We negotiated with Huddersfield and we agreed both clubs would sit down before that time and both would have the option to discuss what was going to be the best for Jack.

“Obviously Jack Payne can be a player who is very important for us and our job is to make him very welcome and happy.”

“Roofey (Kemar Roofe) told me many times at Leeds last year how happy he was at Oxford and it was not easy for him to leave.

“That’s what we have to do, Jack must feel this love from everyone.

“The good thing is we have the ability to sit down with Huddersfield well before, so we can prepare for any scenario.”
