KIDLINGTON paid dearly for a missed penalty as they fell to a last-minute 2-1 defeat at home to Potters Bar.

The hosts had just equalised through Anaclet Odhiambo in the 67th minute of the Division 1 Central game, when they were awarded a penalty three minutes later.

After much discussion Odhiambo, who had been fouled in the box, was the one elected to take the spot-kick.

After picking himself up he scuffed his shot wide and the scores remained level.

The head of steam that Kidlington had worked up evaporated.

Potters Bar grew in confidence and snatched the points when Murray scored an 88th-minute winner.

This was a game that Kidlington had bossed for vast periods.

After a pretty drab first half in which the only highlights were two Lewis Coyle free-kicks for Kidlington, Garry Jones blasted the visitors into the lead in the 51st minute.

The Greens fought back well after were rewarded by Odhiambo’s equaliser. But it all went wrong after that.

This was a game that Kidlington seldom looked like losing, but for all their attacking play what ultimately cost them was not scoring when they had the chance.

Kidlington: Warrell, Quainton, Flanagan, Wise, Franklin, Gabbidon, Coyle (Dunmall 80), Osborne-Ricketts, A Odhiambo, E Odhiambo, Castle (Harvey 66). Subs not used: Willoughby, Janes, Tetek.

Attendance: 68.

Another side to suffer in injury time were Didcot Town, who were denied victory by a last-minute goal at Wimborne Town and then missed a match-winning penalty.

The Railwaymen had to settle for a 1-1 draw which extended their unbeaten run in Division 1 South & West to five games.

In an even contest, Didcot took the lead on the 18th minute when a through ball found Sam Barder, who calmly slotted past Wimborne keeper Gerrard Benfield.

For most the game, both sides struggled to produce quality in the final third, although Wimborne’s Daniel Cann went close to an equaliser.

Didcot looked like holding out before Wimborne’s 90th-minute goal.

Visiting keeper Leigh Bedwell came out of his goal, but Jamie Davidson fed a waiting Robinson Okumu, who tapped home from a few yards out.

Further drama came in the 93rd minute when Wimborne captain Billy Maybury saw red for a deliberate handball preventing Didcot’s second.

Ben Whitehead stepped up for the resulting penalty which was calmly saved – his first spot-kick miss of the season.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell, Elkins, Organ, Ballard, Cattell, Learoyd, Barder, McNish, Whitehead, Thorne (Thomas), Janes (Joyce).

There was late heartbreak for struggling Wantage Town, who lost 1-0 at home to high-riding Salisbury.

The visitors, belying their bottom-but-one position in the table, looked like hanging on for a brave point.

Mason Walsh went closest for Wantage, who were under pressure for much of the game.

Then in injury time, Justin Bennett scored to the delight of the home fans.

North Leigh’s match at home to Yate Town was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
