OXFORD City can make history this evening (7) as they eye a place in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Victory at Gillingham’s Priestfield would equal the club’s best run in the competition, set in 1962 when they bowed out to Arsenal.

City have already won six games to reach this stage, coming from behind to upset Peterborough United in the second round.

“Our lads have done very well to get this far,” said manager Rob Tutton.

“They’re a tremendously talented group and there are a number who could and maybe should be in a professional academy right now.

“I wasn’t a bit surprised to see them beat a Category Two academy side – we knew the standard of side we were coming up against and we matched them.”

Like Peterborough before them, the Gills ply their trade in the EFL Youth Alliance South East Division, but Tutton expects an even tougher test in Kent.

He said: “I think it’s probably a slightly tougher task, because Gillingham have some useful players that we have to match up with and compete against.

“The lads are confident and everyone is excited about playing at a big Football League ground, but I’m sure they won’t let the occasion get to them.”

He added: “They’ve all had experience of big games which have meant something in previous round. They know not to let this chance pass them by.”
