DIDCOT Town were unable to claim an elusive first away victory, despite taking an early lead as Winchester City ran out 3-1 winners in Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League.

After Luke Carnell shot, the visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when Jordi Mulvany’s floated free kick from 45 yards was misjudged by home keeper Lewis Noice and flew into the back of the net.

Didcot had chances to double their lead with Jordan Graham and Declan Benjamin going close.

With the visitors unable to add to their advantage, the hosts capitalised as Howard Neighbour tapped in from close range to equalise in the 42nd minute.

It was to get worse for Didcot when Andy Jenkinson gave Winchester the lead in first-half injury time.

The quick double deflated Didcot as Winchester controlled most of the second half.

The visitors did have a big chance to level when Jordan Graham was put through on goal, but his effort was saved by Noice.

Substitute Craig Feeney sealed the victory five minutes from time to condemn Didcot to a tenth game without victory on the road this season.

It gets no easier as they travel to league leaders Hereford next Saturday.

Wantage Town led for 81 minutes at Barnstaple Town, but they had to settle for a point after the hosts grabbed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors took the lead after seven minutes when Jared Jones hit a screaming shot into the top-left corner of the net.

Wantage held on until the 88th minute when Shaun Copp looped a free-kick from outside the area over the head of Wantage keeper Ed Cavanagh.

The result leaves Stuart Cattell’s side in the bottom three.

Kidlington gave high-riding Kempston Rovers a run for their money before falling to a 2-1 defeat in Division 1 Central.

The second-placed hosts took the lead in 30th minute through Sam Johnson.

But four minutes later, Kidlington were level when Callum Harvey fired home.

Kempston’s winner came midway through the second half from Danny Watson.

l ARDLEY United extended their unbeaten run in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division to five games with a 1-1 draw away to undefeated Thame United.

The hosts took the lead in the 54th minute, but Troy Bryan equalised for Ardley just two minutes later.

Richie Claydon scored a hat-trick as Letcombe romped home 6-1 away to Cheltenham Saracens in Division 1 West. their other goals came from Sean Webb, Jordan Davies and Adam Fecher.
