OXFORD City general manager Justin Merritt hopes a good run of games in Vanarama National League South will help striker James Roberts to shine.

Oxford United loanee Roberts and winger Matt Whichelow, on loan from Boreham Wood, were expected to make their first league appearances for City away to Weston-super-Mare this evening.

But an orange flood alert warning for Weston-super-Mare means they seem certain to have to wait a bit longer.

However, Merritt expects them to have an impact on his side's promotion push.

"We're excited to get Matt on the pitch and we're keen to get the most out of James Roberts as well," said Merritt.

"They're two new signings and hopefully they will add something to the team.

"There's a lot of talent in this team, if you look at the likes of Matt Bevans and Dave King at right back, so we're excited by the prospect of having a good run between now and the end of the season."

Due to a combination of a busy FA Trophy schedule, poor weather and even an abandonment at Whitehawk, City have played just once in the league since the turn of the year, seeing them drop out of the play-off positions as a result.

"It's frustrating, because we've been dropping down the table and we can't do anything about it," Merritt admitted.

"Games in hand are good to have, but I'd much rather have points on the board."
