Justin Merritt faces a selection dilemma when Oxford City host Gosport Borough at Marsh Lane today.

After an commanding 3-1 victory at Bath, City welcome back three players from suspension, one from injury and another who was rested last week, to take on the mid-table Vanarama National League South side.

Alejandro-Adrian Santiago, David King and Reece Fleet were all banned last week, while leading scorer Bradley Bubb was still sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Merritt also opted not to use Kynan Isaac, meaning there is now fierce competition for a place in the starting XI.

“It really does give me a headache,” Merritt said.

“It was important to bounce back last week after a disappointing result, and I was extremely pleased with the performance.

“I have always said to the players who are given the shirt that they need to make it very difficult for me to take it off them the following week.

“We were without several key people last week, so the manner of the victory was very satisfying.”

Merritt is confident Bubb has overcome a hamstring injury that has seen him miss the last four matches.

But the strength of the squad means that he is not guaranteed a starting place on his return.

“Bradley is fit,” City’s boss said.

“He has trained already so comes back into the squad, but we will have to see whether he comes straight into the team or not.

“We rested Kynan Isaac last week too. He was on the bench, but we did not use him so I have some big decisions to make.”

City remain second in the table, and are the leading scorers in the league, averaging more than two goals a game.

But Merritt says his side will continue to develop.

“We can get better, there’s no question about that,” he said.

“There are aspects of our game we are continuing to work on and we are always striving for further improvement.

“We have got where we are through a lot of hard work both on and off the pitch and we are all enjoying it.

“But we have to keep driving forward.”
