OXFORD United striker James Roberts scored in his first game back from compassionate leave on loan at Chester.
The 19-year-old struck the opening goal in the 2-1 win against Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League.
It was his first appearance since the death of his younger brother Ben a fortnight ago.
Chester boss Steve Burr paid tribute to Roberts, who was later forced off with a hamstring injury.
He told local media: "It was quite fitting, it's been a difficult time for the lad.
"I thought he took his goal very well. Our supporters gave him a great reception."
