OXFORD United made it three successive victories in FA Women’s Super League 2 with a tense 1-0 win at third-placed Yeovil Town on Sunday.

Kayleigh Hines hit the only goal of the game in just the third minute, looping a shot over the head of the keeper from the left-hand corner of the area.

The U’s dominated the early stages and could have led by more, with striker Lauren Allison causing the home side plenty of problems.

Yeovil reasserted themselves before the break, with Ellis Hillman blazing over from inside the six-yard box.

But Allison could have put United further in front on the stroke of half-time when she latched onto an excellent ball from Holly Pickett, but keeper Charlotte Haynes got down well to smother at her feet.

After the break, the hosts pressed forward in numbers and came desperately close to an equaliser when Helen Bleazard struck the inside of the post.

But their momentum was interrupted shortly after the hourmark due to a lengthy stoppage for treatment on a head injury to Glovers’ defender Natalie Haigh.

The result was 23 minutes of stoppage time at the end of the match in which Oxford had to withstand heavy pressure, but they clung on to take all three points.
