A storming second-half display saw North Leigh cruise to a 4-1 victory at home to fellow Evo-Stik Southern League South & West opponents Slimbridge in Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie.
However, it did not look that way at half-time with the visitors holding a 1-0 lead.
Despite having the lion’s share of the play in the first half, the Millers were unable to find the net, Callum McNish twice going close while Kieran Sanders saw a shot deflected wide.
Slimbridge took the lead after 42 minutes when Adam Mace fired home unstoppable 25-yard shot past home keeper James Foster.
The second half saw the Millers storm into the attack with new signing Sam Elkins having replaced the injured Jon Else in defence at half-time.
The equaliser came in the 57th minute when Aaron Woodley’s cross from the right was headed home from close range by Sanders.
Six minutes later, Elkins was on hand at the far post to head in the second goal from a Morgan Williams corner.
With the home side now in full flow, a slick move was finished off by Elliott Osborne-Ricketts’s left-foot strike on 70 minutes.
Slimbridge fought back and the Millers’ defence had to be on the alert to keep them out.
In injury time, however, Williams crashed in a shot to make it 4-1.
North Leigh: Foster, Else (Elkins HT), Hopkins, Turk, White, Westlake, Woodley, Osborne-Ricketts, Sanders, McNish (Fullerton 85), Williams. Subs not used: Seacole, Taylor.
Attendance: 65.
