Holders Ardley United were knocked out of the Uhlsport Hellenic League’s Bluefin Sports Cup when they lost 2-1 at home to Carterton in the first round on Saturday.

After Dan Sadler had been denied by Ardley keeper Kieran Beesley, Carterton took a deserved lead on the half-hour through Jack Heap.

Ardley equalised five minutes after the break.

Latching on to a long clearance, Troy Bryan slipped a great pass to Reece Bayliss, who lobbed over ex-Ardley keeper Joe White.

There were chances at both ends before Carterton got the winner through Heap in the 75th minute.

Deep into injury time Ardley’s Jacob Daffern was sent off for use of the elbow.

Abingdon United shipped five goals in the second half as they crashed 6-0 away to Highmoor Ibis in a Premier Division clash.

Mo Davies put the hosts ahead on 33 minutes, while Ryan Jackson-Wild had Abingdon’s best chance.

After the break, Ibis added further goals from Aston Robinson (2) and Davies, who completed his hat-trick with a brace.

Chris Brind and Luke Stone excelled at the heart of the Letcombe defence as they drew 0-0 away to Shortwood United Res in Division 1 West.

Pat Howe shot the visitors’ best effort over the bar.
