KAYLEIGH Hines is looking forward to another opportunity to test herself against higher-league opposition as Oxford United Women visit Bristol Academy in FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup group 3 tonight (7).

The U’s were beaten 3-0 at Birmingham City and 6-1 at home to Notts County earlier in the competition, but topscorer Hines believes there is much to learn from facing WSL 1 opposition.

She said: “After we played Birmingham we picked the game apart and when we broke down the goals, we conceded from the type of things that we defend on the training ground – individual mistakes make the difference against a WSL 1 side.

“We kept the ball really well for periods, but you can’t let it slip against that calibre of player and it’s been a great learning curve.

“Everyone’s committed to play at this level and it’s a great opportunity to test yourself against international players, and we’re approaching Bristol with the same mentality.

“It’s great for everyone’s development.”

Boss Les Taylor made five changes to the United squad for last week’s visit of Notts County, with Lindsay Pinker handed her first start and debuts for Rebecca Dandridge and Sophie Baker.

However, Hines, Rosie Lane, Kat Nutman, Katie Stanley and Holly Pickett were all restored to the side for Sunday’s 3-2 win at Watford in WSL 2.

Chloe Bruce and Madison Lee both missed Sunday’s trip due to injury.

The hosts fancy their chances, according to Bristol midfielder Caroline Weir.

She said: “We’ll be expecting to beat Oxford United – but that doesn’t mean we’ll be underestimating them.”
