Oxford City narrowly edged out Wantage Town 1-0 in the final of the Oxford Mail Girls League Under 13 League Cup to complete a double.

Wantage goalkeeper Sophie Vernon kept out everything City threw at her until, with extra time looming, she was finally beaten.

There were just four minutes left to play when Vernon parried a City effort into the path of Town defender Kayleigh Hannington, whose attempted clearance was unfortunately sliced into her own net.

City will now represent Oxford at the Aces National Tournament in Leicestershire next month against some of the top grassroots sides in the country.

In the under 16 final, Kidlington were beaten 5-0 by Swindon Town, courtesy of a Lauren Abery hat-trick, a Jessica Clements strike and an own goal.

But there was success for Kidlington in the under 15 competition, as they beat Benson United 1-0 to lift the trophy.

The only goal came midway through the first half when Amberley Vircavs worked an opening for herself before firing home the decisive strike.

Oxford City eased to a 4-0 victory over Tower Hill Vixens in the under 14 cup, taking the lead through Giorgia Laird.

They extended it before half-time when Emma Parker cut back for Nicole Holden to finish with aplomb.

Parker headed the third after the break and Taya McCalmon completed the scoring with a sensational long-range effort.

The under 12 event had to be decided on penalties following a 2-2 draw between Oxford City and Summertown Stars.

Alissa Sattentau twice equalised to keep Stars in the game, first cancelling out Molly Jones’ fifth-minute opener before striking for a second time after Damini Bhagat had restored City’s advantage.

But Summertown had no reply in the shoot-out, with Oxford City emerging 4-2 victors.

There was better shoot-out luck for Summertown Stars White in the under 11 cup final as they triumphed 2-0 on spot-kicks following a 0-0 draw with Grove Challengers.

Ruth Tyson and Charlotte Evans scored Summertown’s first two penalties, with keeper Ava-Rose Mason saving both Grove kicks to give her side victory.
