Didcot Girls’ School bid to be crowned national champions for an unprecedented third successive year at Reading’s Madejski Stadium, next Tuesday (1.30).

They go for glory again when they face Woldgate College (Pocklington, York) in the ESFA Girls’ Under 15 PlayStation Schools’ Cup final.

Didcot are no strangers to the Madejski after the same set of players defeated Kibworth School (Leicestershire) 5-2 to lift the under 14 cup last year.

That came after they captured the under 13 crown in 2013 with a 3-2 victory over Thomas Estley Community College at Chesterfield FC.

Didcot reached this year’s final with a 7-1 thrashing of Highworth Grammar School (Ashford, Kent) in the last four, with Mollie Dyer and Freeleigh Parnell hitting hat-tricks.

Team manager Leanne Walker said: “The girls have been hit by injuries which has made this year’s road to the final a tough one.

“The team have pulled through this, showing their resilience and grit to succeed with a depleted squad.

“The girls are hungry for this. They are the first team to ever reach the national final for the third consecutive year and are desperate to make history in winning the title.

“They know it won’t be easy, but they have shown in previous years that they have what it takes.”

Didcot will have the backing of a supporters’ coach and pupils from the town’s Stephen Freeman Community Primary School.

The match will be broadcast live on playstationschoolscup.com.
