GIRLS from Blessed Edward College took part in the annual International Girls in ICT Day.

This is an annual event for girls and young women to experience ICT in a new light and encourage them to consider a future in technology.

Girls from all year groups in Key Stage 3 came together in ICT lessons to experiment with computer technology.

They used Makey Makey, an invention kit which turned bananas into touchpads, and when connected with the internet allowed them to play an online piano.

There was also a Lego mind storm, a programmable Lego robot which they used to compete against each other with races around a circuit.

The pupils set up a Raspberry Pi and used it to play Minecraft and code with Python.

Other activities that the girls took part in included completing the Hour of Code, programming with Lightbot, blogging and a poster competition.

They also looked at the components inside a computer and learnt about women who have been successful in the world of technology.
