CITY kitman John Duckworth will be putting his best foot forward once again when he embarks on his latest charity walk to Valley Parade at midday.

Duckworth and a team of volunteers are covering the 73.6 mile route from Lincoln’s Sincil Bank in aid of the Bradford Burns Unit.

The aim is to reach Valley Parade 90 minutes before the kick-off of tomorrow’s final home game against Barnsley. They will then do a lap of appreciation at 2.30 ahead of the traditional remembrance.

Duckworth said: “I’m walking the full distance and there’s going to be about ten of us, six or seven plus the support team.

“We’re meeting up with some Barnsley fans at Tong High School at 11am tomorrow and doing the last five miles together.

“There will be five of their directors taking part, including the chief executive. It’s like football united as we walk up to Valley Parade together.”

The Bantamstrek has raised approaching £2,500 so far but Duckworth is confident that figure will swell considerably en route.

“It’s been going up every day and when people see us walking with the buckets, we usually get a lot of donations.

“I’ve done an hour’s training so I’ll be all right. I didn’t do any last time, it’s just a mental thing.

“The others haven’t done it before but they are all quite fit – fitter than me. There are a couple of runners and hill walkers and it’s just a case of sustaining a pace.

“I start walking like Forrest Gump. It’s a case of ‘walk, John, walk!’ You just keep on going.”
