CLACTON began their Eastern Summer League campaign with a convincing 11-3 victory at Cambridge.

They expected one of their toughest matches of the season, as the hosts have a large squad of players who have gained experience playing in the National League.

However, the final score emphasised the Seasiders’ superiority.

With Clacton defending the deep-end goal, Cambridge began strongly, taking an early lead.

Neil Coles pulled one back, but the hosts scored again to take a 2-1 lead.

The second period saw Clacton take control in all areas and, although they reached half-time with a slender 4-3 lead, it was clear where the momentum lay.

The third and fourth quarters saw the Seasiders put in a totally dominant display of attacking water polo and, with Mick Eastman, in goal, setting the foundations, Clacton scored seven without reply from their hosts.

Team (goals in brackets): Mick Eastman, Robert Eastman (3), Adrian Westlake (1), Nick Westlake, Ian Westlake (3), Neil Coles (3), James Fry, Jeremy Cox (1), Mick Rodwell.
