OXFORD City Ladies’ Leah Moorhouse suffered a badly broken leg as they clinched second place in the Southern Region Women’s Premier Division with a 5-0 win at Woodley United.

She was injured early in the second half after falling awkwardly having just scored her first City goal.

Moorhouse was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with a broken tibia and fibula, coupled with a dislocated ankle.

It took the gloss off City’s victory at Woodley, which featured Danielle Anderson’s third hat-trick of the season which secured a secondplaced finish.

She opened her account on 11 minutes with a composed close-range finish.

She then doubled City’s tally after controlling a long clearance and lobbing the keeper from 20 yards.

Two minutes into the second half, City grabbed a third goal when Moorhouse fired in her first goal for the club, but minutes later suffered her nasty injury.

When play resumed, Woodley missed a penalty, before Kiera Isaac made it 4-0 with a stunning strike from outside the area.

Four minutes from time, Anderson completed her treble with City’s fifth goal.

City Ladies manager Jack Wells said: “ We’re all completely gutted for Leah.

“Since returning from Thailand, she has been an integral part of the squad.

“(Against Woodley), before her injury, she was different class.

“To lose her that way is a real shame and a blow to a player who offers so much on and off the pitch.

“As a squad we wish her all the very best in her recovery.”

Moving on to the game itself, he said: “Apart from the obvious disappointment with Leah, in terms of our performance I thought it was our best 45 minutes of the season in the first half.

“I thought collectively we deserved what we took from the game.’’
