BLACKBIRD Rovers marked a dream debut season with their second trophy in a matter of weeks.
The Oxford City FA Premier Division champions won a tense Oxfordshire John Fathers Junior Shield final 4-2 on penalties following a nervy goalless draw with Banbury District & Lord Jersey FA Division 1 winners KEA at Kidlington.
Manager Wayne Cooper said: “It meant a lot to me because I lost my father last week.
“The players said they would go out and win this in memory of him, so that’s given me some joy after a very difficult week.”
KEA had chances to win the game inside 90 minutes, seeing one effort cleared off the line and another strike a post.
But Rovers won the shoot-out thanks to spot-kicks from David Jennings, Nick Andrews, Joe Cook and Yasine Lamzini.
Blackbird could yet seal a quadruple, as they take on Chequers in the Oxford City FA’s Premier Challenge Cup final, before facingBlack Swan for the Couling Cup.
