WHY, with an ageing population, are big businesses and banks making life as hard as possible for the older generation who are finding life difficult anyway?

They say 60 per cent of us over 70 are not on the net, even so, no way do I want to be looking at a screen at home. (I have a computer), I need an excuse to get out, keep mobile and see people.

Barclays Bank closing its Wallisdown branch (Echo, March 28) comes to mind, and Cllr Ron Whittaker going to Winton now and finding 20 people queuing to see staff is typical.

It was the same at a Poole high street branch last week. Nearing 90 and waiting for a knee replacement and finding standing painful, I found the queue at the door, waited and waited with just one serving at the counter (three or four other staff faffing around with bits of paper) and got out the door 25 minutes later.

They have no thought for the customers whatsoever. I just hope it happens to the powers that be when they are my age.

When we had a shop and post office years ago, we always insisted with staff, stop what they are doing, customers come first, without customers there would be no need to fill up or do paper work.

Cllr Ron Whittaker was right. Banks are “more concerned about bonuses than the interests of customers”.
