A DAD has spoken of how he battled to save a man found stabbed on a Colchester estate.

Armed police swarmed on Bardfield Road, Colchester, after a man in his 30s was found on a patch of grass outside a row of homes.

He was treated at the scene and then taken to The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow for surgery to a leg wound.

The man’s condition was initially stable but police said this improved to stable over the weekend.

A young dad who lives close to where the man was found described how he fought to help him.

“Someone came knocking on my door and said someone had been stabbed.

“I went over there and tried as much as I could to help and phoned the ambulance,” he said.

The man, who lives with his pregnant partner and their three-year-old daughter, described seeing the victim lying on the grass who was still conscious.

“There was blood everywhere. I got a tea towel to try to stop the bleeding.

“The ambulance people on the phone said to try to find the wound. I couldn’t find where it was but found a hole in his jeans so put on as much pressure as I could,” he added.
