TOMORROW is the closing date for entries for Pet Idol 2007 ... so make sure your vote counts!

We need YOUR help to decide who will win our coveted title.

Entries have been flooding in for our fun competition to find the best pet in the west, but you only have until Thursday to vote.

The last entry form will be printed in Tuesday's Times - so don't delay!

Just who have you been voting for? Is it your own pet, or has one of our cute contenders caught your eye?

You can vote in all three Pet Idol categories - Best Dog, Best Cat and Best Other Pet.

And you can vote as many times as you wish - even get your friends, family, neighbours and workmates to support your pet.

No photocopies will be accepted, so you must use a new form every time.

Winners of each category will get £500, while the overall winner, chosen from the three Best Pet categories, will scoop a further £1000 - giving a total prize of £1500 cash.

There will be six runners-up - each winning £100.

Pet Idol is sponsored by the Scottish SPCA, Scotland's largest and oldest animal welfare organisation.

As well as rescuing animals from danger, prosecuting those responsible for cruelty and educating the public, last year it gave refuge to over 12,000 injured, abused or neglected animals at its 12 Scottish centres, three of which are in the west - the Glasgow Dog and Cat Home at Cardonald, Bothwell Bridge in Hamilton and Milton in Dumbarton.

Evening Times vendors, and readers, have also done their bit.

City centre vendors have had Scottish SPCA collecting tins at their pitches, where generous readers have given £570 to the charity - with £380 donated in one week.

"Evening Times readers have been very generous," says David Boyle, Evening Times vending manager.

"The vendors should also be recognised too, because they did see a lot of their usual tips going into the charity tins - however they were more than happy to support such a worthwhile cause."
